Lucknow, Nov 23  A group of locals thrashed a pregnant woman and paraded her naked through a village in Uttar Pradesh after she objected to encroachment on her land, police said Monday.

The incident took place Sunday evening at Karnawala village in Bijnor district, about 400 km from Lucknow.

Of the four people who were primarily behind the incident, two have been arrested, police said.

‘In the incident, the woman suffered a miscarriage. She is undergoing treatment at a hospital,’ police inspector Rajesh Kumar Gautam told reporters.

According to police, some residents of the village wanted to occupy a plot that belonged to the 25-year-old woman’s husband. They started to set up a makeshift establishment on the plot Sunday.

When the woman, who was alone at home, protested, the encroachers barged into her residence. They hit her with wooden sticks, dragged her by the hair and stripped her, police added.

‘Efforts are on to nab the other villagers involved in the incident,’ said Guatam.

Lucknow, Nov 16 A teacher of an Uttar Pradesh school has been booked for allegedly forcing a girl student to perform obscene dance in skimpy clothes and filming it with his mobile phone, police said Monday.

Rajendra Rajput, 35, who teaches at the government-run Barkhera Junior High School in Mahoba district, some 300-km from here, made the Class 7 girl student dance in an obscene manner before him inside a vacant classroom on Nov 14, Children’s Day.

Rajput is absconding, a police officer said.

‘The teacher asked the girl to meet him in a classroom after the Children’s Day function in the school was over. Later, Rajput forced the girl to perform obscene acts that he captured through his mobile phone. The teacher also threatened the girl of dire consequences if she told anybody about the incident,’ the officer said.

‘A day after the incident took place, the girl Sunday narrated the incident to her parents, who registered a case against the teacher,’ police Inspector S.B. Shukla told reporters in Mahoba.

‘Efforts are on to nab the teacher,’ he added.

Meanwhile, the relatives and neighbours of the girl indulged in vandalism and violence on the school’s campus Monday. Demanding arrest of the teacher, they barged inside the school and also manhandled the staff there.

BALASORE: Tension gripped Balasore's Nilagiri area after a Dalit girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered on a temple premise here. A special police squad rushed to the spot on Saturday and has started investigation into the incident.

The body of Swarnalata Dalai (23), daughter of Bhagaban Dalai of Banpur village within Nilagiri police limits was found inside the temple campus on Friday evening. Her family said, she had gone to fetch water from the temple tubewell.

"When she did not return home, we started looking for her. I found her lying dead in the temple campus. We suspect some people hidden inside the temple raped and killed her by suffocating her with her chunri," her father Bhagaban said.

Following complaint police have started investigation. "From the condition of the body, it seems the girl has been raped and then killed. Her clothes were torn and there were injury marks on her neck private parts. Semen stains were also found. So it can be said a case of rape and murder," additional SP (Balasore) Ramesh Sahu said.

Sahu said the post mortem report is awaited. "We are yet to ascertain whether it was a gang rape. We are interrogating local people and some students of a mess. No one has been arrested," he said.

New Delhi, Nov 13: Jaiprakash, a resident of west Delhi, was seriously injured when he was stabbed by his girlfriend’s father, police said Thursday.

Jaiprakash had a relation with a girl in his neighbourhood in Nangloi area. He went to her house to meet her late Wednesday when the attack occurred.

When the girl’s father saw both of them together, he stabbed Jaiprakash in the neck, said a police official.

Jaiprakash, a government employee, is currently in intensive care unit in the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

A young woman who claims she was raped by a doorman at a celebrity club broke down in tears as she told a court of the 'horrific' attack today.
The alleged victim claims Vasil Makaveev, 28, followed her into the toilets at The Collection in South Kensington, London, where he attacked her.
She told Kingston Crown Court that after the alleged attack she was 'dragged out of the club' before calling police.
She was then taken to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where she recalls waking up 'screaming'.

The woman, giving evidence from behind a screen, sobbed as Lisa Wilding, prosecuting, showed her pictures of the toilet cubicle where she claims to have been raped.
She said she recalled saying 'No, get off me, don't', as the attack occurred, and was 'in a pretty hysterical way' after the alleged attack in June.
Being cross-examined by Keir Monteith, defending, the woman said she had gone to the cubicle to snort cocaine, and that she was not sure if she had locked the door behind her.
She denied she took cocaine for confidence and said the drug, combined with four glasses of wine and four of Champagne she had drunk that day, had not had an adverse effect on her.
She said: 'I'm a confident person anyway. I was anyway, until this happened.'
The woman, who said she was chatting to Manchester United footballer Michael Carrick on the night of the attack, said she could not remember everything that happened.
'I had been raped and beaten up, so my memory wasn't clear, after going through such a horrific thing,' she said.
She added: 'I have no reason to just sit here and lie, no reason whatsoever.'
Bulgarian body-builder and part-time model Vasil Makaveev, 28, is accused of ‘luring’ the woman into the toilets after closing before sexually assaulting her.

The venue in South Kensington, London, is popular hangout for Chelsea footballers and regularly welcomes ‘A’-list celebrities, including Princes William and Harry, Angelina Jolie, Jay Z , Hugh Grant and Elton John.
A medical examination the following day found more than 20 bruises and abrasions on the victim’s body. Traces of Makaveev’s bodily fluid were also found on her underwear.
The alleged victim had spent the day in early June watching polo with friends at West London’s exclusive Hurlingham Club before heading for drinks at The Collection.


She continued to drink white wine and champagne into the early hours and was the last person remaining at the club after saying goodbye to her friends.
It was after the doors closed that Makaveev ‘preyed’ on the young woman said Lisa Wilding, prosecuting.
‘We say this was a deliberate and calculated attack by a man who had responsibility for the welfare of everyone at the club, never mind a young, drunk, single girl,’ she said.
‘He preyed on her vulnerability by virtue of her drunkenness seconds after her male companion had left and lured her into the privacy of the toilets.’
She added: ‘The club was closed, it was empty. She was the only person left. We say he targeted her and lured her into the toilet and had his way with her.’
Miss Wilding said the victim believed she was going to the toilets, which are not covered by CCTV, to snort cocaine with the bouncer.
‘She definitely did not go to the toilets to engage in any sexual activity whatsoever with a man she had only just met and did not know,’ she said.
‘She told him ‘no’, she struggled and she resisted and she found the whole episode disgusting. As soon as she could make good her escape, she ran from the toilets and into the bar.
‘The CCTV shows she was hysterical, extremely upset and angry.’
But Makaveev followed her back to the bar and restrained her after she became increasingly frantic, Kingston Crown Court heard yesterday.
The restaurant manager and other staff were alerted by her cries, but instead of assisting her, they helped the doorman drag her out on to the street.
‘She is seen being picked up like a shop mannequin and carried out by this defendant helped by this colleagues, before she’s dumped unceremoniously on the street like a ragdoll,’ said Miss Wilding.
The doors were then shut, leaving the hysterical woman sobbing on the pavement.
But 10 minutes later club staff relented and came to her aid, and an ambulance was flagged down.
She remained highly agitated and screamed ‘nonce, pervert’ every time Makaveev approached her.
The police were called at 1.44am and the victim reported the attack to a female officer before she was taken to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Forensic officers who went to the club, where Chelsea star Ashley Cole was arrested earlier this year, found traces of Makaveev’s semen in the cubicle where the alleged attack took place.
Makaveev, of Northolt, Middlesex, denies one charge of rape.
The doorman, who has worked at the exclusive club for the past six years, does not deny a sexual act took place but claims it was consensual.
The case continues.

Husband files for annulment from Central Texas woman who allegedly pretended to have cancer

Count Trista Joy Lathern’s husband and co-workers among those who now feel misled and betrayed by her alleged pretense that she had breast cancer and was undergoing the rigors of chemotherapy.
Lathern, 24, formerly of Robinson, was arrested Wednesday on theft by deception charges after authorities say she lied about her medical condition, watched as friends raised $10,000 for her at a benefit and then reportedly spent the proceeds on breast-augmentation surgery.
Lathern, who remains free on bail, was arrested again Friday morning on a 2-year-old misdemeanor warrant charging her with theft by check. The warrant was issued in May 2007 in her maiden name, Trista Joy Fabianke, and county jail officials let her bond out Wednesday without realizing there was another warrant for her arrest.

Lathern, who is living now with her grandparents in Beverly Hills, and her attorney, Phil Frederick, both declined comment.

As news of Lathern’s apparent deception spread, cancer support groups and others trying to raise money to help people with real illnesses said they were saddened. While they said they remain hopeful that there won’t be a fundraising backlash, some say they have already seen small ripples from those who have heard about Lathern.
“I can tell you that there has already been a backlash,” said Debbie Rogers, who organized a benefit Saturday for her friend, Sharon Stansel, a former Texas Youth Commission guard who suffers from a severe liver disorder and Hepatitis C.
“You know how you can read people? Some people I have approached for help just say they are not interested in helping with individuals anymore, and I figured that the Trista Lathern thing was going around already. I have been getting that old, distant stare, the look of somebody who has been burned with this before,” Rogers said.
According to court records, Lathern told sheriff’s office investigator James Pack that she lied about her illness, collected $10,000 at a benefit thrown for her at the Hog Creek Ice House in August and
then used the money for breast implants in an attempt to save her failing, seven-month marriage. She
said she also lied about chemotherapy and shaved her head to look the part of a cancer patient, Pack reported.

Husband seeks annulment
On the same day she was arrested, her husband, William Lathern, filed to have their marriage annulled, alleging that she induced him to get married “by fraud.” The couple married April 18 but have two sons, ages 5 and 3, together.
The annulment petition says that William Lathern, who is seeking custody of the boys, was not aware that Trista Lathern didn’t have cancer when they married or when the benefit was held.
Likewise, Trista Lathern’s co-workers at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in Hewitt, where she has worked as an accounting assistant since May 27, 2008, were taken in by her reported ruse.
Judd Anstey, an AAFES spokesman in Dallas, confirmed that Lathern’s co-workers gave up vacation time and gave the hours to Lathern, whom they believed needed the time off while undergoing chemotherapy.
Anstey confirmed that the company has a leave-donation program but said he could not reveal how many employees participated or how much time was donated to Lathern because it is part of an ongoing company investigation. He said Friday that she is still employed at AAFES.
Wayne Redding, owner of Hog Creek Ice House, and Journey Meredith, who handles public service announcements for Clear Channel’s Web sites for its seven Central Texas radio stations, both said that they likely will start taking closer looks and asking more questions before hosting or running announcements for future benefits.
That is the suggestion of Phyllis Hubbard, spokeswoman for Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Waco.
“I hope that people will just investigate what they are giving to,” she said. “Maybe this incident will be a red flag so they will do a little more investigating to see where their money and support are going to. It broke my heart when I read about (Lathern). It made me upset that someone would go to such extremes when all that money could have helped someone who really needed it.”
